Our son was born!
It was the weirdest feeling. He was to be born today because she was being induced. Life shouldn't go on like normal, should it? We probably looked a crazy sight as we ate our lunch at our homeschool group... we had leftover baby boy paper plates and napkins, leftover from my sister in law's baby shower a few months ago, in order to celebrate this baby's birth... who it was still the plan that we pick up in a few days. The family wanted to have a few days with him alone before giving him to us upon leaving the hospital. During this time, all the extended family and friends would have a chance to meet him. Would the family be able to hand him into our arms after that? No one really knew. So we sat there with our blue and green plates, in kind of a quiet meal. Either our lives would change forever soon.... or they wouldn't!
It was about 9:00 at night, and we had gone all day without hearing anything. All of a sudden my phone rang and it was the pregnancy counselor! My heart pounded.... but all she was calling to say was that she hadn't heard anything, yet, and that it can be normal. I thank the Lord that I was emotionally exhausted so that I had no trouble sleeping those nights!
The next morning while we were in Aldi, I got another call from the pregnancy counselor. This time she had news! He had been born about 10:30 the night before, but he was having problems with his lungs, and he would have to stay in the NICU for a while. During this time, he would be tested to be absolutely sure that he had Hunter's Syndrome, and if he didn't have it, the family would want to continue to parent.
