What was realized in Heaven was legally realized on earth.
This Christmas was especially meaningful to us this year. On December 13, I sat in the girls' room reading to them as they drifted off to sleep, and my Lord gently flooded my heart with images and impressions of the last two years, and especially the last 9 months. The next morning, Hudson would be legally adopted, and in the hurry of life, God helped me to feel the significance of that.
December 14, 2011. We awoke with some extended family, we did the breakfast thing, and read a devotional, reminding us of what a miracle adoption is, that it is God's plan, and that God will take care of us all. Then we dressed (because anyone with 4 little ones knows you cannot get dressed until breakfast is had). As we headed to the courthouse in Danville, I could not help but be nervous that something wouldn't go through... it had taken 9 months to get this far, and we had seen our share of papers getting misplaced, things getting lost in the mail, etc. We had hired a photographer, Jean Loper, who I was confident would capture our moments... so I was able to relax and enjoy, and think.
The judge allowed the girls to be in the courtroom with my Aunt to watch the proceedings. We had the perfect judge. He seemed to really enjoy his job that day, and he acknowledged the girls, asked their names, and asked if they were excited about their baby brother. Hudson happily shook his head "no" at appropriately funny times, and occassionally interrupted with a "Ddah!" (his syllable of choice these days).
I don't understand all that has happened these past 9 months. I cannot wrap my mind around it. The Lord has been glorified in our lives through this adoption, and I pray that everything we do is a continuation of that. When I think of his biological family... all parts of it... and the road God has for them, all I can do is to trust that the Lord has a plan, and will keep them in His hand. God has been faithful to all of us. Let this site be an Ebenezer for our family, for their family, and for all who happen upon it, that "hitherto the Lord hath helped us." 1 Samuel 11:12
